This may sound silly but there are so many bugs. Obviously, we're outside so theres gonna be bugs galore. But out of all the campsites I've stayed at, I swear on my prized Sailor Moon figures that there are more here. Which makes sense since its a state forest WITH marshland nearby. This morning over coffee, I ended up just looking at the ground for a good three minutes. And the amount of unique bugs I saw was amazing to watch. Its a bugs life and we're just living in it.

Speaking of bugs, I forgot to mention yesterday I found out the name of one of the butterflies we saw: giant swallowtail. Shoutout to the campstore.

Today's activities included a picnic at the lake. The lake was pretty of course but the real star if the show were the cranes. Mainly cause once they started.. cawing? you couldn't ignore them. It was SO LOUD. As we were walking up, it sounded like a noisemaker you'd give to a kid. After lunch, an adventure ensued. We followed signs for the forest headquarters UNTIL I SAW IT. It said "Old Wisconsin" and the curiosity got the best of us. We drive down winding roads to something I haven't seen since 5th grade. It was a whole village of people reenacting "olden times" aka 1700s? when Wisconsin was colonized. I don't know why but this was such a hilarious find. I'm reminded of my bestie who laughs (like me) at EVERYTHING. Once I tell her about this, she's gonna freak, lmaooo.

Curiosity may have got us there but I definitely didn't have enough to pay $20 to get in lmaooo. So back off to the forest headquarters we went. We found they were doing a scavenger hunt and how could that be passed up? Well, fast forward, we failed horrendously at it LMAO. But we did still get a prize, a Smokey the Bear bookmark. Which I will cherish. I love the old Smokey the Bear design.
And plot twist, I'm writing this the next day! Camping is being cut short due to storms. Very disappointing since two nature trails were planned for today but I'll leave this here while I dig into a breakfast skillet at a local diner.
